The Tánaiste Mary Coughlan has told the Dáil that the Government will not be making any decision on holding a children's rights referendum until there is consensus among the political parties.

The Tánaiste Mary Coughlan has told the Dáil that the Government will not be making any decision on holding a children's rights referendum until there is consensus among the political parties.

A vote was initially scheduled to take place in April last year, but has been delayed because a number of committees are still drawing up recommendations on the issue.

Ms Coughlan says the most appropriate and mature way of dealing with the issue is through consensus.
