Security guard stabbed in armed robbery
A security guard was injured during an armed robbery of a cash-in-transit van today.
A lone man armed with a knife struck at the Carryduff shopping centre in Co Down in mid-afternoon while the van was making a pick-up at a bank.
The guard was grabbed from behind and threatened with the knife. He suffered a knife wound to the chin and was further assaulted when his helmet was knocked off.
The attacker made off with a money box containing a substantial sum of cash, said a police spokeswoman.
The man, aged around 20-25 and dressed in dark clothes, drove at speed from the shopping centre in a gold-coloured pick-up truck.
The PSNI appealed for anyone who witnessed the robbery or saw the vehicle - registration SKZ 2871 – in the area to contact them.
