The European Court of Justice has ruled that Ireland is failing to meet its obligations when it comes to waste water treatment.

The case was taken by European Commission, who successfully argued that the Government is failing to ensure that the waste water from a number of urban areas is subjected to secondary treatment before it enters collecting systems.
