PSNI accused of heavy-handedness in Craigavon

Some residents in Craigavon claim the violence that erupted in the town yesterday was prompted by heavy-handed tactics by PSNI officers.

Officers involved in a security operation came under attack with bottles, stones, petrol bombs and at least one blast bomb during the disturbances.

A gunman also fired four or five shots at a PSNI patrol, while local SDLP Assembly member Dolores Kelly had her car pelted with stones after she spoke out against the violence.

The DUP claims the trouble was orchestrated by dissident republicans to lure police officers into the area.

However, some residents are accusing the police of brutality, with one video taken on a mobile phone showing officers smashing their way into a house.

A young boy also allegedly suffered a broken arm at the hands of the police.

Ms Kelly is urging anyone with complaints to bring them to the Police Ombudsman.
