Dissident republicans blamed for gun attack on PSNI

Dissident republicans are believed to have been behind a gun attack on a police patrol in Craigavon, Co Armagh, last night.

Four or five shots were fired at the PSNI officers in the Brownlow Road area just before 8pm, but nobody was injured in the incident.

The PSNI say the officers saw a man in a crouched position pointing a "long-barrelled weapon" at them.

Earlier yesterday, the PSNI were attacked with bottles, stones, petrol bombs and at least one blast bomb while investigating a telephone bomb warning in Craigavon.

A number of vehicles were also burned out and several PSNI vehicles were damaged, while stones were thrown at SDLP Assembly member Dolores Kelly after she spoke out against the violence.

The windscreen of her car was smashed during the attack.
