Environment Minister John Gormley is due to visit Carlow this afternoon to assess the damage caused by heavy flooding over the weekend.

The town was particularly hard-hit following torrential downpours in many parts of the country.

More than 100 people had to be evacuated from one apartment block in Carlow after the River Barrow burst its banks, flooding several streets.

Mr Gormley is due to meet local authorities and emergency services when he visits the town later.
