Man held over woman's murder in Derry

A man being sought over the murder of a mother of four in Derry was arrested by gardaí in the Republic of Ireland tonight.

Stephen Cahoon, 36, was detained by Gardaí in Donegal town and taken to Ballyshannon for questioning.

The Gardaí have been liaising with the Police Service of Northern Ireland in the investigation into the murder of Jean Quigley on July 26.

The 30-year-old woman, who was two months pregnant when she died, was beaten to death in her home in the Shantallow area of Derry.

Cahoon who is believed to have been in contact with Ms Quigley in recent weeks was swiftly identified as a prime suspect.

Last Friday, the day before hundreds of people attended her funeral, police handed out leaflets and carried out interviews near her home in Conrsheil Fields.
