Mullingar gardaí step up security after riot

Gardaí have stepped up security in Westmeath following a violent feud there earlier today.

The row broke out at Dalton Park in Mullingar just after midday and several people were injured by petrol bombs and missiles.

Three men and an elderly woman were arrested in relation to the violence.

The men are being questioned at Mullingar garda station and the woman was later released.

Another altercation erupted at Mullingar Hospital between families being treated for injuries sustained during the row.

Gardaí arrested three men at the scene.

Local reporter Cait Power says the fighting is part of an ongoing feud between some Traveller families in the area.
