Experts warn against Central Mental Hospital move
Leading experts are warning that moving the Central Mental Hospital to a rural location beside the State's biggest prison is entirely incompatible with the principles of mental health care.
Members of the Irish Mental Health Coalition are appearing before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Health and Children.
They have called on the Government to reverse its decision to move the Central Mental Hospital from Dundrum to Thornton Hall.
Caroline McGrath, Director of the Coalition, insisted that the discrimination and stigma attached to mental illness will only be increased under the plan.
