Fisherman airlifted from small boat off Hook Head

A fisherman has been rescued from a small fishing vessel after getting into difficulty in heavy fog off the south-east coast last night.

A fisherman has been rescued from a small fishing vessel after getting into difficulty in heavy fog off the south-east coast last night.

The man was alone on a 10-metre boat when he got into trouble in poor visibility about nine miles off Hook Head.

The alarm was raised at about 7.30pm and the Waterford Coastguard helicopter airlifted the man to safety shortly after 8pm, before his vessel sank.

He was uninjured and is now said to be safe and well.
