Report hits out at Dublin gridlock

A cross-party group of TDs and Senators today criticised state agencies over their failure to adequately tackle the frustrating levels of traffic gridlock in Dublin.

A report by the Oireachtas Committee on Transport warned there is a lack of urgency and co-ordination among official organisations charged with keeping the city moving.

The group have set out a vision of how bus use should be increased in the capital before rail and light rail projects are rolled out.

The recommendations include allowing buses to use the Port Tunnel; adding 350 buses to the fleet and start running a high-frequency feeder service between the two Luas lines; accelerating the delivery of the Quality Bus Corridor network and widening the network beyond Dublin city to adjoining counties.

Frank Fahey TD, chairman of the Transport Committee, will launch the report, the first from the cross-party committee in the Dáil.
