Luas tram hits pedestrian

A pedestrian was struck by a Luas tram today causing traffic disruption in Dublin’s city centre.

The 60-year-old man is believed to have stepped out in front of the Green Line tram as it entered Harcourt Street from St Stephen’s Green.

He was rushed to St James’s Hospital, where his injuries were said to be minor.

The accident happened at around 2.20pm, with the Green Luas line reopening in both directions just less than an hour later.

The west and south roads of St Stephen’s Green were closed to traffic, causing tail backs on Kevin Street and around the Green.

Gardaí said motorists faced delays in the area for some time.
