Trocaire slams UN for failing Zimbabwe

An Irish charity is accusing the international community of failing the people of Zimbabwe.

An Irish charity is accusing the international community of failing the people of Zimbabwe.

Trocaire says the UN's failure to impose sanctions on Robert Mugabe's regime means vulnerable people are being left unprotected.

Nine out of 15 countries on the UN Security Council voted against an arms embargo last night.

Trocaire Director Justin Kilcullen says the council is not fulfilling its role properly.

Mr Kilcullen said: "The UN security council is there to preserve world peace, to ensure that people are able to live a life in a stable environment and we see violence being perpetrated against the people of Zimbabwe with impunity."
