Gardaí expected to launch murder investigation in Cork

Gardaí in Cork are expected to launch a murder investigation later following the discovery of a man's body in Togher.

The 68-year-old was found dead at a house on St Francis Avenue on College Road at around 1pm this afternoon.

It is believed the man's wife found the body in an upstairs bedroom at around lunchtime.

Officers from the Technical Bureau are due at the scene and gardaí from the local crime scene unit are carrying out a forensic examination.

The State Pathologist's office has been notified and Dr Marie Cassidy is expected to arrive at the scene tomorrow.

It is understood the man suffered a number of stab wounds.

A full post mortem to establish the exact cause of death will be carried out at Cork University Hospital.
