An investigation is underway following the discovery of more confidential files at an illegal dump near Cork city.

Reports this morning say highly confidential records from AIB have been discovered at the same site where sensitive hospital files were found eight weeks ago.

This documents are believed to include customers' account statements and loan applications.

Officials from AIB's southern region headquarters are due to visit the site at Glounthaune this morning to examine the material.

The bank says it will be investigating the matter fully and will not be making any further comments until personnel have visited the area.

The documents were discovered during excavation work for the construction of the Cork to Middleton rail link.

Only eight weeks ago, confidential medical files were found at the same location, which is a former landfill site.

These files dated back to the 1970s and 1980s, and contained detailed medical histories of people who underwent treatment at Cork Regional Hospital and St Finbarr's Hospital in the city.
