Hibernian staff to hold industrial action ballot
Workers at the Hibernian insurance firm have decided to hold a ballot for industrial action over plans to move almost 600 jobs to India.
The company announced earlier this week that the 580 jobs would be transferred to Bangalore on a phased basis as part of a restructuring plan.
Dublin will bear the brunt of the cuts, but they will also affect Cork and Galway.
Yesterday, workers attached to the UNITE trade union passed a motion of no confidence in Hibernian management and decided to hold a vote on possible strike action.
They are hoping Hibernian will reverse the decision and keep the 580 jobs in Ireland.
