The Government has announced plans to allow people to be tried a second time for the same offence in certain criminal trials.

Under new laws proposed by Justice Minister Dermot Ahern today, prosecutors would be allowed to reopen murder, manslaughter and rape cases if a suspect has been acquitted because of a legal error by a judge.
