Derry hosts cross-border conference on racism

Ways of combating racism in an increasingly multicultural Ireland are due to be discussed at a cross-border conference in Derry today.

Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy and PSNI Chief Constable Huge Orde will be attending the meeting along with the North's Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness, and the Ireland's Integration Minister, Conor Lenihan.

The conference aims to forge stronger links between the Gardaí, the PSNI and community groups on both sides of the border.

Initiatives aimed at reducing hate crimes and the number of problems created by racism and sectarianism will be discussed at the two-day event.
