Elderly man fights for life after crash in Galway

An elderly man is in a critical condition after a crash in Co Galway today.

The man and his wife were travelling by car near their home when it and a pick-up truck were in collision on the Loughrea to Woodford road shortly after 9am this morning.

The couple were taken to Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe where the man's condition is described as critical. The woman is in a stable condition.

The driver of the pick-up truck was taken to University Hospital, Galway with injuries that are described as not life threatening.
