New medicine could bring hope for diabetes patients

A study has found that a medicine produced in Ireland could bring new hope to people suffering from type 2 diabetes.

The results of clinical trials show the drug could cut the rate of kidney disease in patients by as much as one-fifth and could also control blood sugar levels.

Four hundred Irish people took part in global trials of the medicine, which is produced by Servier in Arklow Co Wicklow.
