Two rescued from canal in Galway

Two people had a lucky escape after they had to be rescued from the canal in Galway city in the early hours of this morning.

It is understood that a man and a woman, in their early 20s, entered the water just before 2am.

Two units of Galway Fire Brigade attended the scene and had to use rescue equipment to remove the pair from the water.

They were treated for shock at University Hospital Galway.
