Four Peaks Challenge raises 400,000 for the homeless

The Four Peaks Challenge has raised over 400,000 for homeless people in Ireland this weekend.

More than 500 people climbed the four highest mountains in each province - Carrauntoohil in Co Kerry, Mweelrea in Co Mayo, Co Down's Slieve Donard and Lugnaquilla in Co Wicklow - in just 36 hours.

Funds raised from the event, which is organised by Focus Ireland, will go towards providing 800 new homes by 2010 in Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Waterford and Sligo.
