Gardaí have arrested 70 people as part of a major operation targeting drug dealing in Dublin.

The arrests were made in the past 48 hours as part of 'Operation Cellar'.

Gardaí say the four month covert operation has dismantled two significant drug distribution networks operating in Dublin city centre.

Detective Chief Superintendent Tony Quilter is leading the investigation and revealed that: "To date, 64 men and six women have been charged with offences relating to the supply of serious controlled drugs - principally heroin and cocaine."

In addition, a charge has been prepared against one individual for a serious armed robbery.

"During the course of these searches, small quantities of drugs and an imitation firearm have been recovered."
