Comhar proposes radical changes to motor tax
The Government is being asked to combat environmental damage by replacing motor taxes like VRT with a radical new charge.
Comhar, the Sustainable Development Council, is recommending that motorists be taxed according to the number of kilometres they drive.
They would also be charged on their type of vehicle and the time of the day they are on the roads.
The revenues generated would be used to support rural travel which has been welcomed by Irish Rural Link.
