Sellafield waste 'more dangerous than Chernobyl'

A new study published today says the stockpile of radioactive waste at Sellafield is more dangerous than the Chernobyl reactor.

The research was commissioned by Friends of the Earth.

It says Sellafield's tanks of radioactive waste are more dangerous than Chernobyl and are the single installation most vulnerable to a terrorist attack.

The study also says Sellafield's owners are unlikely to meet a commitment to reduce radioactive discharges into the Irish Sea to "close to zero" by 2020.
