School children escape injury in Donegal bus crash
Up to 20 school children today escaped injury after the bus they were travelling in crashed.
The accident between a car and the bus happened just outside Ballybofey, Co Donegal, at around 4.35pm.
A Bus Eireann spokeswoman said it involved the 1535 Derry to Donegal service, which was carrying both secondary school children and regular passengers, and no injuries were reported.
“At present there is no reports of injuries to the driver or the bus passengers,” she said,
“There were approximately 20 schoolchildren on board at the time, there were no reports of injuries. No glass was broken on the bus other than the windscreen. The bus was fitted with seatbelts.”
Gardaí said the main Ballybofey to Letterkenny road has been closed.
Officers are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the accident, including claims the bus swerved to avoid the car.
