Gardaí probe death of pensioner found tied to chair

Gardaí are continuing to seek help from the public in piecing together the circumstances leading to the death of an 83-year-old man at his house in Co Westmeath yesterday.

Christy Hanley's body was discovered at the house on Bridge Street in Kilbeggan following an anonymous phone call to Tullamore Garda Station.

A post mortem was carried out yesterday, but the results have not been released.

Reports this morning, however, say he had been beaten and robbed and was found tied to a chair.

Much of the garda investigation is focusing on tracing the person who made the anonymous phonecall that led to the discovery of Mr Hanley's body.
