Girls hit by car on way to school

Two 12-year-old girls were knocked down and injured while on their way to school in Bangor today.

Two 12-year-old girls were knocked down and injured while on their way to school in Bangor today.

The schoolgirls were understood to have been hit by a car in the Castlepark Avenue area just before 9am.

They were treated at the scene by an ambulance crew before being taken to the Ulster Hospital at Dundonald.

A police spokesman said one girl suffered a broken leg and the other a broken ankle. Both are said to be in a stable condition.

Castlepark Avenue and Dufferin Avenue were closes to traffic for a period while police examined the scene of the accident.
