One dead in Mayo plane crash

One man died and another was seriously injured in a light plane crash in Co Mayo, according to gardaí.

One man died and another was seriously injured in a light plane crash in Co Mayo, according to gardaí.

The single-engine aircraft lost control and hit the ground at Kilmovee at 4.45pm.

A 51-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene while the second man has been taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar with serious injuries.

The Air Accident Investigation Unit of the Department of Transport is en route to the scene.

The plane had earlier left Ireland West Airport at Knock on its way to Weston Airport in Dublin.

Officers at Swinford garda station are investigating the incident.
