Cork teen still critical after petrol-related accident

A 13-year-old boy remains in a critical condition in hospital this morning after suffering serious burns in a petrol-related accident on Sunday night.

Ciaran Callanan's family say he was repairing a quad bike with a group of other young people in the Gurranabraher area of Cork when petrol splashed on him.

They say he was engulfed in flames when he accidentally flicked a lighter that was in his pocket.

The teenager was transferred from Cork University Hospital to the special burns unit of Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin last night.

More than 40% per cent of his body was burned in the incident.
