SIPTU is meeting today to discuss ways to avert strike action regarding Aer Lingus' controversial cost-cutting plan.
The airline has threatened to suspend any ground staff who fail to co-operate with new work practices after 5pm this evening.
The workers, who include baggage handlers and check-in staff, have already voted to reject the changes aimed at saving Aer Lingus €10m.
They have also voted for strike action if management tries to implement the new work practices unilaterally.
Some progress is understood to have been made during talks on the issue and SIPTU will today discuss whether to hold a new ballot on the airline's proposed changes.
