Cork A&E will open on a part-time basis due to lack of funds

A state of the art Accident and Emergency Department in Cork will only be able to operate on a part-time basis, it emerged this afternoon

The Mercy Hospitals Chief Executive, Pat Madden, confirmed today that while the new unit will open in the summer, it will only operate between 8am and 8pm, owing to staff shortages.

Mr. Madden said the HSE was refusing to allocate any more money. He said the cost of the additional staff would amount to just over €1.5 million annually.
