Six million cigarettes seized at Waterford Port
More than six million cigarettes have been seized by customs officers at Waterford Port.
The Gold Classic and Raquel Classic brand cigarettes, which had an estimated street value of €2.1m, were concealed in a container that had arrived from Zebrugge, Belgium.
The container, which appeared on the manifest as Toys, was searched yesterday.
A spokeswoman for the Revenue’s Customs Service said the seizure was as a result of risk profiling.
“Investigations are ongoing both nationally and Internationally,” she added.
