Man held after alleged abduction of 14-year-old girl

Police in Co Derry are questioning a man following the alleged abduction of a teenage girl in the town of Dungiven earlier this week.

The 39-year-old man was detained last night after a 14-year-old girl reported that she was bundled into the boot of a car while walking along Glenshane Road on Monday.

She is believed to have been taken to an isolated area, where she managed to escape and flee across nearby fields before raising the alarm by mobile phone.

The girl was subsequently interviewed at a special victims unit in Derry.
