The trial of a Dublin man accused of murdering an Arklow resident when the car he was in allegedly swerved towards the victim killing him, will begin in the Central Criminal Court at Dublin today.

The trial of a Dublin man accused of murdering an Arklow resident when the car he was in allegedly swerved towards the victim killing him, will begin in the Central Criminal Court at Dublin today.

Anthony O’Reilly (aged 22) with an address in Ballyfermot, Dublin is charged with the murder of Daniel McDonald on Main Street, Arklow on February 2, 2007.

Mr McDonald was 21.

A jury of six men and six women have been sworn to hear the case, which will begin in courtroom three today.

The jury, which was selected before Mr Justice Paul Carney, heard O’Reilly is also charged with intentionally or recklessly grabbing the steering wheel of the car from the driver, causing the car to swerve in the direction of Mr McDonald.

He is also charged with driving a car in such a manner to cause danger to the public and thereby causing the death of Mr McDonald.

O’Reilly has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
