PSNI officers and animal welfare campaigners have raided a farm in Co Down after receiving a tip-off that animals were being kept in cruel conditions.

Three hundred pigs and a number of cattle were found at the premises near Katesbridge.

Some of the animals were dead when inspectors arrived, while a number of others had to be put down.

The USPCA says the animals were being kept in appalling conditions.

Several members of the farm owners' family already have convictions for animal cruelty.
