Europe Donna calls for action following cancer report
Europa Donna Ireland, the independent charity working to raise awareness of breast cancer, says the recommendations of the latest reports on the failings of the breast cancer care systems need to be rapidly implemented.
Ms Christine Murphy-Whyte, chair of Europa Donna Ireland said: "Given the deeply disturbing revelations of misdiagnosis and best practice deficits in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment in Ireland which has characterized the last year, priority must now be to restore trust in the system of breast cancer treatment in Ireland."
"Despite the launch of the National Quality Assurance Standards for Symptomatic Breast Disease Services last May and the designation of Specialist Breast Centres last September, we still do not know how well each of our specialist centres meets these standards."
Europa Donna Ireland has called for the three specific steps to now be taken.
They include assessing the current status of breast cancer services in each of the 8 designated centres, undertaking a gap analysis and prioritising and timetable what needs to be done and who should do it.
