Earth Hour declared a success

Preliminary figures show the Earth Hour campaign to reduce electricity consumption last night was a success.

EirGrid says it recorded a drop of 1.5% in demand in the three hours from half past six yesterday evening.

That is enough power for 50,000 homes.

Dublin took part in the Earth Hour campaign for the first time this year.
