Cycling scheme launched in Cork

Cyclists in Cork can swap second-hand bikes in a new initiative launched today by Cork City Council.

The first-ever Bike Swap Shop is one of many events aimed at promoting cycling awareness and bicycle use in the former European Capital of Culture.

Cyclists can bring along old bikes - adults' and children's models - and exchange them with others on display.

Information stands at the Swap Shop will be run by Cork City Council, Cork Cycling Campaign and Cork Environmental Forum.

The Council's Cork City Cycling Strategy is also running bike training courses for adults as part of the Cork Lifelong Learning Festival next month.

Other forthcoming themed events include Bike to Work Week in May, Cork Cycling Festival in July and the Rebel Pedal Parade in September.

The Autumn Bike Fashion Show in November will showcase the latest trends in innovative bikes, rain gear, winter clothes and lights.
