Youth fined for rolling joint at Courthouse
A teenager, who was caught rolling up a cannabis joint at the Dublin Children’s Courthouse, has been fined €50 today.
The youth, who is now aged 18, but was a juvenile at the time of his arrest, pleaded guilty to possession of a supply of cannabis, at the Dublin Children’s Courthouse, in Smithfield, on May 14, last.
Garda Mark Buckley of the Bridewell station told Judge Ann Ryan that he saw then 17-year-old boy “had been standing outside the side wall of the courthouse and appeared to be rolling some kind of cigarette.”
The teen was found in possession of cannabis worth €20, Judge Ann Ryan was told.
The court heard that he had previous convictions for criminal damage and possession of drugs.
The north inner city teenager was unemployed but looking for work, Judge Ryan was told.
He had previously spent time in a residential centre which helps and provides counselling to troubled youths.
Judge Ryan fined him €50 giving him two months to pay with a one day detention term in default.
