Murder investigation launched after Dublin stabbing
A murder probe was launched today after a knife attack on an off-duty taxi driver, gardaí confirmed.
The 31-year-old man was stabbed to death in a cul-de-sac in west Dublin.
It was initially believed the driver was chasing a passenger who did not pay a fare when he was fatally stabbed.
However, investigating gardaí later said the victim was off duty at the time of attack in Fortlawn Avenue, Blanchardstown, shortly after 10pm last night.
The driver’s body remains at the scene, which has been cordoned for a full forensic examination.
A garda spokesman urged anyone with information to contact officers at Blanchardstown.
“Gardaí from Blanchardstown garda station investigating the murder of a man at Fortlawn Avenue believe that the deceased was not working as a taxi driver at the time of this incident,” he added.
“We are looking into all the circumstances surrounding the incident at the moment.”
The National Taxi Drivers Union has expressed sympathy to the man's family.
