Two men have been treated for hypothermia after jumping into Newry canal to evade the police.

The incident happened after police used a stinger device to stop a car with five people on board that had ignored a checkpoint.

A man and a woman were arrested at the scene, another man ran off into woods and two others jumped into the canal.

They swam to shore, where they were detained by the police and treated in hospital for hypothermia.
