Thousands on the move for bank holiday weekend

Tens of thousands of people will be on the move today as the traditional bank holiday exodus gets underway.

Motorists are being urged to take extra care on the roads throughout the St Patrick's weekend.

The Gardaí will have extra checkpoints in place to crack down in particular on speeding and drink-driving.

Nine people died and 21 were seriously injured during road accidents over last year's bank holiday weekend.

Meanwhile, Dublin Airport says it expects to handle around 300,000 passengers over the weekend, an increase of 7% on last year.

Passengers are being advised to check the traffic situation in and around the airport to make sure they leave in time to catch their flight.
