Cancer report criticises HSE communications failures
A report into the handling of the breast cancer misdiagnosis scandal in Portlaoise has identified system failures within the HSE.
The study by former Dublin City manager John Fitzgerald examined how health service bosses dealt with patients during the re-checking of breast cancer tests at the Midlands Regional Hospital in Portlaoise.
The report has highlighted a series of communications failures, but says there is no evidence of wilful neglect on the part of anyone involved.
The document is one of a series of reports into the misdiagnosis scandal being published by the HSE today.
