Man accused of threatening to blow up Ireland-bound flight

A passenger accused of threatening to blow up a plane bound for Dublin was remanded in custody after appearing in a US court today.

Aiden Simon Mackle of Northern Ireland is accused of telling Delta Air Lines employees that he was a terrorist after drinking and becoming unruly on a flight from Atlanta, Georgia.

The plane was diverted to Bangor International Airport in Maine early on Saturday.

Court documents alleged Mackle punched an off-duty Delta employee and made threats about either hijacking or destroying the plane.

Mackle, 44, will remain in jail pending a second hearing on Wednesday in court. He is charged with assault and interfering with a flight crew.
