Harney to publish Portlaoise cancer screening crisis report

Minister for Health Mary Harney has today said that she will be publishing one of the reports into the cancer screening crisis at Portlaoise Hospital in the next few days.

The John Fitzgerald report examines the clinical review of breast cancer services at the hospital.

It looks at management's handling of the re-checking of mammograms and ultrasounds, communication arrangements with patients and communication between the HSE and Department of Health.

Earlier this week, the Labour Party criticised the fact that a number of reports into the cancer misdiagnosis crisis have still not been published.

Harney also said the Anne O'Doherty report is taking longer to complete than had originally been anticipated.
