Union urges chemists to continue dispensing medication

The Pharmaceutical Union has urged all pharmacists to continue dispensing medication as normal today.

The move comes despite the introduction of a new HSE plan which would see less money paid to pharmacists for wholesale medicines.

It was feared chemists would refuse to supply drugs to medical card holders today but the IPU says any action is being deferred until members meet next week.

Michael Guckian, President of the IPU, has said the situation is very serious as hundreds of chemists could still be forced out of business.
