The latest accident happened in Cork, and resulted in the deaths of three young men.

It brings to six the number of people killed on the roads in just over 24 hours.

Five people were travelling in the car when it crashed at Dunboy Castle in Castletownbere at around 2am this morning.

The car plunged into the water at the Caslte and three men - aged 17, 20 and 21 - were killed, while the two other occupants managed to escape.

Gardaí are also investigating a fatal crash in Co.Wexford at around 7pm last night.

A 34-year-old woman died after her car left the road and crashed into a tree stump at Kildavin in Murrintown.

Meanwhile, a mother and her young son remain in a critical condition following a horrific accident in Co Kildare yesterday.

The woman's two other children, a seven- year-old boy and eight-year-old girl, died after the family car crashed into a truck.
