A substantial amount of cash was taken in a robbery in south Dublin today, gardai said.

Two raiders, one of whom was armed, forced a security firm employee to empty a number of ATMs at the Dunnes Stores Shopping Centre at Cornelscourt at around 4pm.

The employee was then bound and gagged while the raiders made their getaway.

“A substantial amount of cash was taken in the robbery,” a Garda spokesman said.

One raider is described as between 20-25 years old, 5’9“ and with an Irish accent, He wore a blue trousers, grey hoodie, a black scarf around his face. He carried a black pistol-type firearm with a silver handle.

The accomplice is said to be 25-30 years old and up to 6’4“. He also had an Irish accent and wore a black leather jacket with a hood.

A Garda spokesman explained: “The security firm employee was accosted by two men in the car park area and forced at gunpoint into the area of the complex where the ATM’s are filled. He was forced to open the machines and the cash was removed.”

Gardai are examining CCTV in the area as part of the investigation.

Investigating officers at Cabinteely Garda Station are appealing for information and are asking anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the vicinity of Dunnes Stores over Saturday evening and Sunday to contact them.
