Ireland is pledging €100,000 to support the current Kofi Annan led mediation efforts in Kenya, following a request from the United Nations.

Ireland is pledging €100,000 to support the current Kofi Annan led mediation efforts in Kenya, following a request from the United Nations.

Announcing the funding, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Ahern said he fully supports the efforts being made by the ormer UN Secretary General to find a political resolution to the crisis.

Over a thousand people have lost their lives while up to 300,000 Kenyans have been displaced since the disputed presidential elections in December.

Kofi Annan has set a deadline of March 1 for the current phase of the talks.
